Number / Title: 16-014:  Tsunami Warning Polygons for Wireless Emergency Alerts
Originator: Office:
Submitter: Eric Christensen Office: W/NP8
SUBMITTER COMMENTS:  CaRDS request for programming support to incorporate polygons into the software used by the NWS Gateway to produce Common Alert Protocol (CAP) messages that can be ingested by the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA’s) Integrated Public Alert & Warning System (IPAWS). This will enable more accurate geo-targeting of Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEAs) when a Tsunami Warning is issued by the National Tsunami Warning Center. This will improve the warning process for five large Southern California counties with dense populations over inland areas.
