Mitigation & Education Subcommittee Meeting

This meeting will be held Monday, January 30, 2017 from 8:30am to 12:00 noon.

This is a regularly-scheduled in-person meeting of the MES.

Who should attend:


Mapping & Modeling Subcommittee Meeting

This meeting will be held on Monday, January 30, 2017 from 10:00am to 2:30pm.

This is a regularly-scheduled in-person meeting of the MMS.

Who should attend:

  • Science Representatives who serve on the NTHMP Coordinating Committee.
  • Appointed MMS members and guests
  • Others who are interested may attend this open meeting.


Warning Coordination Subcommittee Meeting

This meeting will be held Monday, January 30, 2017 from 1:00pm to 4:30pm.

This is a regularly-scheduled in-person meeting of the WCS.

Who should attend:

  • Emergency Management representatives who serve on the NTHMP Coordinating Committee.
  • NWS Region Tsunami POCs
  • Others who are interested may attend this open meeting.


Joint NTHMP MES/MMS/WCS Collaboration Meeting

This meeting will be held on the Tuesday, January 31, 2017, until about 2:15pm.

This meeting is specifically arranged for the Mitigation & Education and Mapping & Modeling Subcommittees to collaborate and mesh ideas for projects and implications for the updated NTHMP Strategic Plan and Outcomes.

Who should attend:

  • Members of the NTHMP Mitigation & Education Subcommittee
  • Members of the NTHMP Mapping & Modeling Subcommittee
  • Members of the NTHMP Warning Coordination Subcommittee
  • NTHMP Leadership: Chair, Administrator, and WCS Co-Chairs
  • Others who are interested may attend this open meeting.


NTHMP Island Caucus

This meeting will be held on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 31, 2017, after the joint MES/MMS collaboration meeting.

This is the first meeting of the newly-established NTHMP Island Caucus. This informal, non-voting group was formed to exchange ideas and information about tsunami issues specific to islands.

Who should attend:

  • People who represent or have interests related to U.S. island state (Hawaii) and territories (American Samoa, Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, Puerto Rico, and U.S. Virgin Islands).
  • NWS Region Tsunami POCs who serve islands (Pacific Region, Southern Region)
  • Others who are interested may attend this open meeting.

NTHMP Leadership and Reviewers Meeting

This meeting will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2017, from 2:30pm to 4:30pm.

This is meeting will afford an opportunity for external reviewers to meet with NTHMP Leadership.

Who should attend:

  • NTHMP Chair, Administrator, Federal Agency Partners, and all NTHMP Subcommittee Co-Chairs
  • Appointed NTHMP Review Team members
  • This is a closed meeting and not open to others.


NTHMP Annual Meeting

This meeting will be held one and 3/4 days, Wednesday and Thursday, February 1 - 2, 2017.

The purpose of this meeting is to bring together state, territory, university, and NOAA/NWS partners to strategize, collaborate, and continue progress on making the nation safer from the threat of tsunamis, improve mapping, modeling, mitigation and education for tsunamis, and enhance tsunami warning products. One of the primary purposes of this meeting is to have NTHMP partners provide program updates and describe future planned activities. This is an open meeting.

Thursday, February 2, is dedicated time for NTHMP partners to provide updates on activities and future plans.

Who should attend:

  • NTHMP Coordinating Committee members
  • NOAA (NWS, NOS, etc.), FEMA, USGS, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Navy, and other Federal Agency partners.
  • State/Territory emergency management, geological, and environmental agency representatives.
  • Colleagues from agencies and organizations based in Canada or other countries.
  • University researchers and scientists.
  • Private company partners and colleagues interested in tsunamis.


NTHMP Grants Administration Meeting

This meeting will be held Thursday, February 2, 2017, from 2:45pm to 4:30pm.

The purpose of this meeting is to discuss FY17 NTHMP Grant Guidance as well as administrative and reporting procedures.

NTHMP Strategic Planning Meeting

This meeting will be held Friday, February 3, 2017, from 8:30am to noon.

The "NTHMP Strategic Plan Plan" will guide this process and most discussions will focus on the Outcomes and Strategies and Measurements and Milestones from the 2013 - 2017 NTHMP Strategic Plan.

This meeting will focus on assembling inputs to the 2018 - 2022 NTHMP Strategic Plan by assembling strategic planning elements from the three NTHMP Subcommittees and developing overarching goals and outcome objectives.

NTHMP Coordinating Committee Meeting

This meeting will be held on Friday afternoon, February 3, 2017.

This is a regularly-scheduled in-person meeting of the NTHMP Coordinating Committee.

Who should attend:

  • NTHMP Coordinating Committee members
  • While all meetings are open (unless there is a reason for the Coordinating Committee to vote to close a part of it), generally only voting members of the Coordinating Committee, ex-officio members, and designated guests attend this meeting.

There is no charge to attend and participate in any of these meetings.

Housing

An NTHMP room block was arranged in the Portland Doubletree Hotel, but has been released. You can contact the hotel to check on availabilitiy of rooms at prevailing rates. .

You may call the hotel directly on (503) 281-6111 (M-F, 8am to 4pm PT) and ask for in-house reservations. Ask if any more rooms are available under group code NT1.

Hilton Central Reservations is open 24/7 and can also make reservations by calling 1-800-966-0510. The property is the "Portland Doubletree".

Federal Government employees must download and complete this City of Portland tax exemption form and present it with valid Government ID upon hotel check-in to claim hotel tax exemption.


Ground Transportation in Portland

The meeting location, hotels, and restaurants are within walking distance of each other. The Portland Tri-Met Light Rail system connects the airport to downtown for just $2.50, so no rental car is required. The closest red line rail station to the Doubletree Hotel and Oregon State Office Building is Lloyd Center.
